Shopify store cost in India has five running parts: the Shopify plan, a transaction fee on third-party gateways, the gateway's own fee, a domain, and any paid theme or apps. As listed on Shopify's India pricing page on 9 October 2026, the Basic plan is ₹1,994 a month, or ₹1,499 a month when you pay yearly, with no setup fees. GST is charged on Shopify's fees in India. What a build costs is a separate question and depends on scope.
Shopify plans in India
From the Shopify India pricing page, as listed on 9 October 2026:

GST on Shopify's fees
Shopify's billing help says that if your store is in India, GST is charged on your Shopify fees and shows on your bill. The pricing page does not say whether displayed prices include GST, so read the total at checkout. You can add your GSTIN under Settings > Billing; exemptions apply only to invoices issued after you submit it. See the billing help page.
Transaction and gateway fees
Shopify Payments is not offered in India, so you use a third-party gateway. Each online order then carries Shopify's third-party fee (last column above) plus the gateway's fee. Manual methods such as cash on delivery carry no third-party transaction fee. See Shopify payment gateway in India.
Gateway fees as listed on 9 October 2026:
- PayU: 2% for Visa, Mastercard, netbanking, BNPL and wallets; 3% for Diners, American Express, EMI and international; 18% GST on top.
- Razorpay: 2% platform fee per successful domestic transaction plus GST, 2.15% for corporate credit cards, setup and annual maintenance at ₹0.
- PhonePe PG: "1.99%" as a limited period offer with terms, and zero setup and annual fees.
Domain, themes and apps
- Domain. Shopify's domains page says domains through Shopify "typically start at $9 USD/year, billed annually". Price varies by extension, and renewal can differ from year one. A domain bought elsewhere is paid to that provider. Every store also gets a free myshopify.com address.
- Themes. Shopify has free themes. On the Theme Store on 9 October 2026, paid themes we saw ran from $100 to $500, with "One-time payment, lifetime license for your store". Paid theme purchases are final sale.
- Apps. Shopify's help says developers can charge recurring, usage and one-time fees, and these appear on your Shopify bill. Each listing shows its own plans. Count every recurring app fee before you install, and remove apps you stop using.
Worked example (illustration only)
A Basic store on the yearly rate with ₹1,00,000 in monthly sales, all paid by card or netbanking through a gateway at PayU's listed 2%, compared with Grow:

The plan gap is ₹4,100 and Grow saves 1% of gateway-paid sales, so Grow only pays for itself above 4,100 / 0.01 = ₹4,10,000 of such sales a month. It leaves out GST on Shopify's fees, the domain, apps and COD orders.
What a build costs depends on
If someone else builds your store, the price is separate from everything above. We do not quote amounts in an article, because a fair number needs your scope. What moves it:
- Templates. Home, collection, product, cart, blog and landing pages each need layout work.
- Custom sections. Anything beyond the theme editor means design and code.
- Products and migration. Moving products, variants, customers and past orders needs mapping and checking.
- Integrations. Courier, accounting, inventory, WhatsApp or ERP links each have their own rules.
- Custom app or headless. A different scale of work. See Shopify theme vs headless.
How to compare quotes
- Get a written, itemised scope: pages, sections, integrations, migrated items.
- Ask what you pay monthly afterwards: plan, apps, domain, support.
- Ask who owns the Shopify account, domain, theme license and code. They should be in your name.
- Ask what happens after launch: bug-fix period, handover, training.
Quotes with different scope are not comparable.
